A collision on Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) two miles northeast of Camden claimed the life of a Lee County woman early Saturday morning.

Kershaw County Coroner David West identified the woman as Maggie Ann Long, 38, of Bishopville. West said the collision occurred around 3:55 a.m. Saturday.

He said Long was traveling north when another vehicle struck hers from behind. West said Long was pronounced dead at the scene and that two passengers in her car were transferred to a Columbia hospital.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP), Long was driving a 2007 Toyota SUV when she was struck from behind by a 2006 Chevy Truck driven by 31-year-old Marlon Tramaine Williams near Malvern Hill Drive, causing Long to go off the road and hit a tree.

The SCHP said Williams fled the scene, but was soon taken into custody.

Troopers charged Williams with one county each of felony DUI resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and two counts each of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, and leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily injury.

As of Sunday afternoon, Williams was being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center without bond.
