The S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) arrested and charged a 26-year-old North Carolina man with felony DUI resulting in death and felony DUI resulting great bodily injury following the death of another North Carolina man in a three-vehicle collision on I-20 eastbound around 3 a.m. Friday morning. Kershaw County Coroner David West identified the deceased man as Charles Harrell Grooms, 63, of Laurinburg, N.C. West said Grooms was riding in the bed of a pickup truck being driven by the man charged by the SCHP, and that Grooms died of blunt force trauma around 6:10 a.m. at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. SCHP Lance Cpl. David Jones said troopers arrested Bruce Edward Clark, 26, also of Laurinburg, N.C. Jones said Clark was driving a 1997 Nissan pickup truck, which was parked -- with no lights on -- in the left lane of I-20 eastbound near mile marker 87.
