A man who had been the longest-held detainee at the Kershaw County Detention Center (KCDC) will now spend much of the next 15 years in a South Carolina prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in 2014. Grant Adam Helms Jr., 27, of Lancaster County, pleaded guilty April 12 to one count of third-degree sexual conduct with a minor as part of a plea deal. Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies arrested Helms after he turned himself in at KCSO headquarters in April 2014.
