William Eugene Ray, 43, of east Camden -- who, with his wife, fled the county with his 2-year-old daughter earlier this year in violation of a Department of Social Services (DSS) safety plan -- pleaded guilty Nov. 1 to stealing the van used to ultimately end up in Iowa. Ray actually owned the van, which was being kept in a bail bonding company’s parking lot.Ray pleaded guilty to grand larceny more than $2,000 but less than 10,000. Circuit Court Judge Deandra G. Benjamin sentenced him to five years in prison, credited with 115 days spent in both a jail in Ohio and in Kershaw County, suspended upon three years probation.
