SCFC charges four with arson
Youth Explorer suspected of setting fires to answer calls with firefighters
Charlene Arrington
A juvenile who was a member of a fire department Explorer group and three adults have been arrested for arson in connection with starting woods fires so that the youth could participate in firefighters’ efforts to put them out. S.C. Forestry Commission (SCFC) law enforcement agents charged all four with willfully burning lands of another. According to SCFC investigators, Charlene Arrington, 38, Mark Branham, 19, and Jacob Eddings, 18, helped the 14-year-old juvenile -- a member of the Blaney Fire Department’s Explorer youth program -- start three fires along Bookman Road and White Pond Road in the Elgin area between May 30 and June 3.
