SCHP amps up efforts for New Year's weekend
Drink and keys
Beware the “BATmobile” this New Year’s Eve if you plan to drink and drive during the holiday weekend. Equipped with a DataMaster breath analyzer, the BATmobile, also known as the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit, is a 26-foot-long customized vehicle used by the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) to help crack down on DUI accidents and fatalities in the state. SCHP Patrolman Brent Kelly said the BATmobile will be used by the agency as the traffic unit sets up checkpoints around 11 p.m. Saturday along U.S. 1 in Elgin.
