Teams of firefighters went out into the south Camden community to speak with area residents about fire safety and offer to install free smoke detectors in their homes. John Wright, program manager for the Red Cross’s Central South Carolina Chapter, said the smoke detector programs are an ongoing initiative by the Red Cross. Camden Fire Department Chief John Bowers thanked the Red Cross, saying this is not only a strong partnership, but a great opportunity to protect more than 200 homes and their residents in the community.
