Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) recently purchased eight new automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, thanks to a more than $8,600 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. According to a LF-R press release, AEDs are medical devices that allow trained medical first responders to shock the heart of a cardiac arrest patient back into a normal rhythm. Studies have shown that every 1 1/2 minutes in the United States, someone dies due to sudden cardiac arrest.
