Traffic fatality may be homicide

What initially appeared to be a fatal automobile accident on Black River Road last month may actually have been a homicide. The S.C. Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a single-car accident April 16. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said the driver and only occupant of the car, James Corey Beaufort, 36, was initially thought to have been killed after his Ford Focus ran off the side of the road, hit several trees, flipped and landed on its roof before bursting into flames.
