Bethune residents want school kept open
Bethune - Witham
Bethune Town Councilman Don Witham speaks at the beginning of the meeting, about needing to get out of this cloud of closing BES. Witham also said the distance -- 18 miles one way -- is too far to make elementary students travel to a proposed school near North Central High. - photo by Martin L. Cahn
Bethune Town Councilman Don Witham, speaking on behalf of local residents, made one thing perfectly clear: the town wants Bethune Elementary School (BES) to stay open. Witham spoke near the beginning of the first of a series of public feedback meetings on facilities hosted by the Kershaw County Board of Trustees in BES’ media center Thursday night. About 50 people filled up the space in the media center to attend the meeting.
