Crews begin demolishing the band room of the old Camden Middle School (CMS) campus Wednesday on Laurens Street. Following CMS’ move to McRae Road several years ago, the Kershaw County School District attempted to sell the property twice to developers who had proposed creating a new residential area by extending Jordan Street south to Jordan Street. Neighbors fought the move, leaving the property vacant for years and subject to vandalism. The district decided earlier this year to demolish the remaining buildings and have the debris removed in order to make the property more attractive to sell.
