Based on a recent memo from the S.C. Department of Education, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees made a change to the 2018-19 KCSD calendar to close school on Election Day in November of 2018.
“We were trying to get as many instructional days in as possible before the end of 2018 for next year’s school calendar,” Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan said in a press release. “But we were told that schools have to be closed on Nov. 6, so the school board made that change.”
Morgan said that with Nov. 6 as a holiday, the school board had to add another school day to the calendar to meet the state requirement of 180 school days. The board decided to make Nov. 21 an early dismissal day after receiving input from the district’s calendar committee and administrators.
An updated version of the calendar is available on the district’s website at www.kcsdschools.net/calendar.
