State standardized test scores recently released by the South Carolina Department of Education show that Kershaw County School District (KCSD) elementary and middle school students raised their scores in 15 out of 23 categories from 2016-17 to 2017-18 although KCSD officials say there is need for more improvement. The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) were given to students this spring in grades three through eight in the subjects of English Language Arts (ELA), reading and mathematics. The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) was administered to students in grades four, six and eight in science and in grades five and seven for social studies.
