The Baron DeKalb Elementary School Chorus (first photo) and artwork by Lugoff Elementary School 4th grader Charli Morris (second photo) and Camden High School 10th grader Hannah Hough (third photo) will be part of a showcase of Kershaw County student visual and performing art at “Celebrating the Arts of Kershaw County Schools” on Thursday at Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS). Student art displays will be available for viewing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the L-EHS gymnasium, and the performing arts program starts at 6:45 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. The program features choral and instrumental selections and visual art pieces from students at all 20 Kershaw County schools. In addition to several musical numbers from the district’s combined elementary, middle and high school choirs, the Camden Middle Jazz Band, Lugoff-Elgin Middle Ensemble and L-EHS Woodwind and Brass Ensembles will perform instrumental selections. Violinists from Camden Elementary and Doby’s Mill Elementary schools and L-EHS dancers and drama students will also perform as well vocal students from North Central Middle and North Central High schools. ATEC students designed the programs for the event. The public is invited to attend the event which is sponsored in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, and admission is free.
Kershaw County student art celebration to be held Thursday
