North Central Middle School (NCMS) was recently named a recipient of a Wellness Inspired School Environment (WISE) grant. It received the award March 19 in Columbia from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina Foundation.
NCMS won the award by being among 461 schools that made the list of “America’s Healthiest Schools” based on a rigorous set of criteria, from the availability of nutritious foods to access to quality physical education opportunities. NCMS is one of 55 schools to receive a WISE grant to further health and wellness efforts for a healthier generation.
“Special thanks go to the NCMS Healthy Schools Committee, including NCMS Principal Chad Dixon, Lynn Conto, Sarah Foster, and coaches Melissa Snyder and Hunter Frye, who put in many hours to get the $4,000 grant for our school,” NCMS officials said in a press release.
