New CCTC scholarship offers free tuition to high schoolers

In June 2014, Camden City Councilwoman Alfred Mae Drakeford attended a Small Cities conference in Texas hosted by the National League of Cities. There, she learned of a program where high school students earning a certain grade point average could attend their local technical college tuition free for the first two years. Drakeford brought the idea back with her, began speaking with her fellow councilmen, county officials and private investors about launching such a program in Kershaw County.
