School board may choose referendum project firms

Tonight, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees may choose one or more firms to build projects approved by voters for construction and funding by referenda in November. At its Jan. 17 meeting, the board unanimously chose Pike-McFarland-Hill Consultants to assist members with choosing at least one, if not several, “construction management at risk” firms. As Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Executive Director of Operations Billy Smith explained during the Jan. 17 meeting, such firms work with architects, engineers and owners (the district, in this case) through the design phase to select pre-qualified subcontractors at a guaranteed price.
