Getting back on its regular schedule of meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will meet today at 6 p.m. The past several meetings have taken place on the second and fourth Tuesdays in order to deal with the search for a new superintendent and preliminary work on the Kershaw County School District’s (KCSD) proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget. Discussions on the proposed budget will continue tonight with -- at least according to an attachment to tonight’s proposed agenda -- little change from the last two budget presentations. It calls for an $87.1 million balanced budget, representing a 3.3 percent increase from the current fiscal year, and includes a 1 percent mandated increase in teacher salaries, 1.5 mandated step increase for teachers and the district’s proposal to add an additional 1 percent increase and 1.5 step increase for all other (non-teacher) employees.
