Special day for special athletes
More than 200 athletes take to the field for KC Special Olympics
Spec Olympics 2 Web
A group of Special Olympians give their all in the 50-yard dash.
With sirens blaring and lights flashing, police cars escorted several buses through town as well-wishers waved and cheered from points along the route. Their destination was Camden Military Academy for the annual Kershaw County Special Olympics. A Flame of Hope torch, carried by athletes from Kershaw County School District high schools and law enforcement officials, joined the procession at the Camden IGA. Then the buses reached their destination, the torch carriers completed a lap around the track and some 200 athletes from 24 KCSD classes as well as the Kershaw County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs took to the field.
