Daniel Boyce and Jackie Viotto will serve as the head coaches for the Kershaw County School District’s new boys’ and girls’ swim teams.
Boyce teaches 8th Grade social studies at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School and has 14 years’ coaching experience. He coached the swim team at Blythewood High School for two years and has coached the Kershaw County Swim Team for the last 10 years. Boyce started swimming on the Kershaw Aquatic Team at the age of 5 and started coaching it at the age of 15.
Viotto teaches special education students at Baron DeKalb Elementary School and has 12 years’ coaching experience of more than 100 swimmers. She swam on a division III NCAA college team at Plymouth State University for four years.
More than 60 district secondary students have indicated an interest in being a part of the swim team. Tryouts will be held Aug. 5-9 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kershaw County Aquatic Center (196 Battleship Road, Camden). Swimmers must be in grades 7-12, and should bring a bathing suit and running shoes.
The swim season runs from the beginning of August through the first week in October. Practices will be Monday-Thursday with some Fridays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The $150 fee per swimmer includes a swimsuit, cap and T-shirt.
