Kershaw County sport fans will have a healthier meal option at home concession stands due to the efforts of local students involved in a program called Healthy Young People Empowerment (HYPE). HYPE partnered with the United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC), the Eat Smart Move more initiative and Kershaw County School District to introduce the Triple Play meal to the public: a grilled chicken wrap, bottled water and baked chips or fruit. “(HYPE) really felt like finding healthy foods was a difficult option and they were constantly bombarded with unhealthy food choices. One option was to look at exercise but they felt like we have a lot of options for exercise with school, the parks and walking trails but the challenge is more eating healthy,” UWKC Vice President of Communications Maria Spring said.
