Trustees vote, 7-2, to consolidate school to Keys Lane

On a 7-2 vote, with Trustee Matt Irick joining Kim Horton DuRant in dissenting, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees voted Tuesday night to place a potential consolidated elementary school on Keys Lane near North Central high and middle schools. The board voted a month ago to place a consolidated school on a list of projects for a potential referendum, but tabled a decision on where to place such a school until Tuesday night. Irick, who holds Seat 7 and lives in Camden, said he was “going to do a 180” because he felt it was more important to gain support from North Central residents for the possible referendum than it was to close Bethune and Mt.
