Unique college signing recognizes L-E artist
Artist Signing
Arissa Nelson (center) listens as SCAD Assistant Director of Admissions right) surprises her with news of a $24,000 scholarship during L-EHS’ first-ever “artist signing.” Joining Arissa (from left) are her mom, Susan, and her sisters, Ally, who already studies at SCAD, and Lexy, a Kershaw County deputy. At far right is a portrait Arissa created of her father, Andre, who was unable to attend the ceremony. (Martin L. Cahn/C-I)
Tuesday morning, Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) senior Arissa Nelson was the focus of the school’s first-ever artist college signing day. No fewer than 50 other students, including at least a dozen photography students, crowded into the L-EHS media center to participate in an event that looked similar to when college-bound athletes sign letters of intent to their colleges of choice.
