Deal: RTA to continue Medicaid transports

Medicaid patients don’t have to worry where their next ride will come from, thanks to a new deal worked out between the Santee-Wateree Regional Transportation Authority (S-WRTA) and other RTAs. Several weeks ago, the S-WRTA and the PeeDee and Berkley-Charleston-Dorchester RTAs refused to ratify a contract with Access2Care, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHSS) new Medicaid transportation broker. S-WRTA Executive Director Ann August said at the time that Access2Care’s set patient-per-mile rates so low that her and other RTA’s would have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars on the deal.
