The KershawHealth Board of Trustees unanimously passed a motion last week authorizing the organization’s CEO to enter into a non-exclusive letter of intent to explore collaboration opportunities with Palmetto Health in Columbia. According to the letter of intent, “The Parties desire to discuss and explore potential collaboration opportunities in areas where enhance quality and patient safety, cost containment, economies of scale and other efficiencies may be achieved through collaboration between the Parties.” The letter of intent further states, “It is the further objective of the Parties that each Party shall retain control over its respective independent healthcare system, and that the potential collaboration opportunities shall not diminish the authority of KershawHealth’s Board of Trustees or Palmetto’s Board of Directors to oversee the affairs of their independent healthcare systems.”
