KH board transfers contract authority to new chairman

In August, the KershawHealth Board of Trustees granted authority to former Chair Karen Eckford to sign documents on behalf of the board in connection with the pending takeover of most hospital functions by Capella Healthcare and MUSC Health. In late September, Eckford signed three documents constituting final agreements between KershawHealth and Kershaw Hospital LLC -- representing the Capella/MUSC partnership -- to purchase certain hospital assets; to lease the main hospital and Elgin center for 40 years; and for Capella to at least temporarily manage the Karesh Long Term Center, of which the board will retain control. There are still other documents to sign, however, before Capella and MUSC Health takeover hospital operations on Nov. 1.
