2023 county budget passes after nine amendments
Kershaw County Board of School Trustee Todd McDonald (center) speaks to Kershaw County Council about the board’s concerns about proposed fee in lieu in taxes (FILOT) agreement changes ahead of Tuesday’s final vote on the county’s budget. Amendments and other actions Tuesday evening kept FILOT out of the mix for funding certain county agencies. With McDonald are Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Harrison Goodwin and school board Chair James Smith. (Martin L. Cahn/C-I)
After the passage of nine amendments and a few arguments over some of them, Kershaw County Council ultimately passed third and final reading of the county’s proposed Fiscal Year 2023 budget with a unanimous vote. Discussion and passage of the amendments and the budget as a while took up most of the more than two hour meeting Tuesday evening.
