Sharon Jones, executive director of the Kershaw County Humane Society and animal shelter, and her staff have been around dogs long enough to know what they’re trying to say. So, one chaotic afternoon in October, when one of the shelter staff members, Michelle Light, called Jones’ attention to wild, frantic barking coming from nearby woods, it wasn’t difficult to conclude that the animal making that noise was in trouble. “We all know the language of dogs.
