Addition to executive session violated FOIA
Empty Council Chamber
Kershaw County Council’s chamber sits empty while council members meet in executive session at the end of Tuesday’s meeting. The vote to enter executive session was in violation of the S.C. Freedom of Information Act, according to S.C. Press Association attorney Taylor Smith, because it included an amendment for a “personnel matter” that was not sufficiently specific, and should have required a two-thirds vote and a finding of exigent circumstances.
At the end of Tuesday’s Kershaw County Council meeting, council unanimously voted to enter executive session with a pair of votes that violated the S.C. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
