Bethune council splits on mobile homes, cell tower
Bethune Council 1
Bethune Town Attorney Stephen Smoak (left) reads out the definition of “mobile homes” from the town’s code of ordinances during Thursday’s Bethune Town Council meeting. Listening to his explanation are Town Clerk Lynn Stephens (center) and Mayor Charles McCoy. Council voted 3-2, with McCoy and Councilman Don Witham voting against, to restate a 1978 ordinance prohibiting the placement of mobile homes inside the town limits. (Martin L. Cahn/C-I)
On split votes Thursday, Bethune Town Council voted in favor of enforcing a decades-old mobile home prohibition, but against accepting a proposed modification to a contract involving the town’s cell phone tower.
