Black River Road project may be held up due to tug-of-war between COGs
Black River Road Project
This aerial view of the southern portion of Camden -- cropped from a larger photo taken from the S.C. Department of Transportation’s website -- shows in red the portion of Black River Road that is supposed to be expanded from one lane in each direction to two. Traffic lights are also supposed to be installed at an intersection near where the words “Beaufort Road” appear and at the entrance to the Steeplechase Industrial Park further east along the red line. It appears the project will be put on hold while a determination is made on whether the Santee-Lynches or Central Midlands councils of government will have oversight of transportation projects in the western portion of the county from Elgin to Camden.
A project to improve Black River Road between U.S. 521 and Steeplechase Industrial Boulevard is likely to be put on hold, thanks to a tug-of-war between the Santee-Lynches and Central Midlands councils of government (COG).
