Burns puts meeting in ‘recess’ over face mask dispute with Jones
County Council 021221
Kershaw County Councilman Jimmy Jones (far right) throws up his hands during a “recess” of Tuesday’s council meeting as, (at bottom, from left) County Attorney Ken DuBose, Clerk of Council Merri Seigler and County Administrator Vic Carpenter read up on the city of Camden’s face covering mandate. A few minutes earlier, Jones had thanked council for agreeing to maintain social distancing during the meeting, saying that he had made the request two weeks ago so that members could take their masks off. That set up a dispute with Council Chairman Julian Burns (back, center) over whether members still had to wear face masks.
During a COVID-19 update by Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter, Kershaw County Council Chairman Julian Burns announced he was placing Tuesday’s meeting in “recess” following a statement by Councilman Jimmy Jones that he would not wear a face mask.
