Bethune’s work to repair and refurbish the town’s aging water tower took a big step toward being completed Thursday when Kershaw County Councilman Tom Gardner presented Bethune Town Council a $33,000 check from the county. Councilman Don Witham reported during the past several months the total cost of the water tower project is approximately $88,000. Upgrades are required periodically by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and Witham said the town had to comply, regardless of cost or financial ability to get the work done.
