County looks to ensure bridge safety

The last time the county’s bridges had major repairs was back during the days of Hurricane Hugo and according to Kershaw County engineer and public works director Dana Reeder, it’s time to again perform a thorough evaluation of their safety and reliability. “Really since 1990 the majority of our bridges have had no major structural upgrades done to them. It’s at the point now that we need to go through and evaluate what we do have, start prioritizing which ones are the worst, and then start a program to accomplish what we need to do,” Reeder said.
