FERC denies Duke license extension
FERC
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) denied a request from Duke Energy to extend its recently acquired 40-year license to control the Catawba River by an additional 10 years. FERC’s order, published Monday, keeps Duke’s license at the 40-year mark instead of 50, as the power company requested. Duke Energy controls the Catawba River chain, which includes the Wateree River down to Kershaw County’s dam on Lake Wateree.
