Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Placeholder Image
Each year, during the week before Thanksgiving, Homeless Coalitions throughout the state and nation observe a week of special events to focus attention on the fact that many citizens face hunger and/or homelessness, either chronically or sporadically, and for a variety of reasons. Many of the chronically hungry and homeless are elderly or are persons with mental illnesses or addictions. But many more are facing these concerns this year, often for the first time, because of unemployment rates that are still high, evictions from rental housing and loss of homes to foreclosures, the exhaustion of unemployment benefits, and the rising costs of food and housing.
