Kershaw County Councilman Jimmy Jones took time during council’s meeting Tuesday to denounce what some have deemed controversial actions by Jeff Mattox, co-chair of the Kershaw County Republican Party. Jones said the local Republican Party has been “hijacked by anti-government extremists” and that “free speech doesn’t mean irresponsible speech.” Jones’ comments came after Mattox, a member of the Kershaw County Patriots -- a Tea Party-like group -- “Liked” a link on the Patriots’ Facebook page for an article entitled “When Should You Shoot a Cop.”
