June 29 quake takes lead as strongest for county

A yellow star at the center of this U.S. Geological Survey map shows the epicenter of the strongest earthquake Kershaw County has felt since late December, a 3.6 quake that shook the county around 7 p.m. June 29. The blue rings moving outward from the center show how far away (and in lesser intensity) from the center the quake was felt.
At exactly 7:03 p.m. July 29, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), a 3.6 earthquake became the strongest Kershaw County has experienced since a series of them began on Dec. 27, 2021.
