Kershaw County Council unanimously voted 5-0 to settle a three-year-long tax dispute with Weylchem, a chemical company with U.S. operations based in Elgin, during a special 8:30 a.m. meeting Tuesday. Vice Chairman Sammie Tucker Jr. and Councilman Stephen Smoak were absent from the meeting. County Administrator Vic Carpenter said the dispute originated from a reevaluation of the company’s overall property value.
