Kershaw County Council passed third and final reading of an ordinance setting the tax rate for the 2017-18 Fiscal Year budget during its Oct. 24 meeting. While no existing millage rates increased from 2017, this ordinance does reflect an additional 5 mill budget line for the purpose of funding Emergency Medical Services. Kershaw County agreed to take on the funding and operation of EMS two years ago as part of an agreement to sell Kershaw Medical Center, now KershawHealth, to Capella, a for-profit corporation.
