Kershaw County Council hopes to give final approval of a redistricting plan by its Oct. 11 meeting. Council moved forward with the redistricting process at its work session Tuesday. Due to S.C.’s history of discriminatory voting practices, council must send a comprehensive plan outlining the details of the redistricting map to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in order to have it cleared as a viable redistricting for county elections in 2012.
