Counties trying to reduce insurance rates for Lake Wateree residents

Property owners with land around Lake Wateree may be receiving good news, thanks to a recent study commissioned by Kershaw and Fairfield counties finding the base flood elevation for the lake is higher than needed. The lake lies in both counties. ESP Associates, an engineering firm based in Fort Mill, conducted the study and found the base flood elevation to be as much as “5 to 9 feet higher than is appropriate.”
