The Lake Wateree Association (LWA) will hold its annual meeting Saturday, beginning with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at Rock Bottom Pond, 1530 Buck Road, Ridgeway. The meeting itself will start at 9 a.m. and is expected to end before noon.

LWA officials said while Rock Bottom Pond has a Ridgeway address, it is near the Wateree Dam on the Lugoff side of the lake. Specific directions from the Camden/Lugoff area are to turn at the Taco Bell in Lugoff on S.C. 5/Longtown Road and drive 6 miles before bearing right on Wateree Dam Road (there is a store at the turn). Travel another 3 miles and Wateree Dam Road turns into Buck Hill Road, where attendees should look for a driveway and signs.

The primary speakers will be Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter and Kershaw County Planning and Zoning Director Carolyn Hammond who will discuss a new flood elevation study which may eliminate the requirement for some property owners in the Lake Wateree area to purchase federal flood insurance.

Also speaking during Saturday’s meeting will be Vicki Taylor on Duke’s relicensing effort, Catawba Riverkeeper Emilee Syrewicze and Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

LWA initiatives will also be discussed.
