Monday, a S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) contractor will begin replacing McDowell Road bridge, one of only 90 in the state being replaced as part of a special state-federal program funded under S.C. Act 98. Traffic will be rerouted away from the McDowell Road bridge over Little Flat Rock Creek, which connects Flat Rock Road to Damascus Church Road near Westville. For some time, crossing the McDowell Road bridge has been limited to vehicles under a weight limit of 5 tons per axle and 7 tons gross.
