The recent flooding event, followed up by days of additional significant rainfall, has led to a dramatic increase in the number of calls being fielded by the Kershaw County Department of Safety and Emergency Services related to mosquitos.
In an effort to help reduce the population of mosquitos, Kershaw County is making available to all households and businesses located in the county Mosquito Dunks, officials said in a recent press release.
Mosquito Dunks are biological mosquito control discs which be placed in standing water around your property. One Mosquito Dunk treats 100 square feet of water surface and can be broken into several portions to treat multiple trouble spots. Each environmentally safe, nontoxic disc works up to 30 days and kills mosquitoes before they are old enough to bite.
County residents can pick up free Mosquito Dunks at the Kershaw County Government Center, 515 Walnut St. in Camden, Room 204, anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. One Dunk per household, please.
Additionally, county employees are attempting to respond to known situations where standing bodies of water located on public rights of way are contributing to the problem, officials said in the press release.`
