Nuisance property ordinance dies at third reading

A proposed nuisance property ordinance slated for third and final reading died on the floor without a second during Tuesday night’s Kershaw County Council meeting. Specifically, the ordinance would have authorized the county to abate rubbish, debris, junk and other materials that constitute a common public nuisance and affect the general health and welfare of the citizens of Kershaw County. The ordinance was civil rather than criminal, which meant it prescribed fines rather than jail time for non-compliance.
