Second reading of an ordinance authorizing a fee in lieu of taxes, or FILOT, agreement between Kershaw County and Suominen is on the agenda for this evening’s Kershaw County Council meeting. Suominen, listed in documents attached to today’s proposed agenda as Bethune Nonwovens, is agreeing to invest at least $55 million in a new expansion creating at least 29 new full-time jobs at its Bethune plant in exchange for the FILOT agreement. This is in addition to a separate expansion and FILOT agreement negotiated in 2015 where Suominen announced a $32 million to $53 million investment creating 25 new jobs.
