Tempers up over Railroad Ave. after Bethune meet
Bethune Map
A dirt portion of Railroad Avenue runs northeast from Blackmon Street South near the top of this Google Maps aerial view of Bethune. A woman living at the end of the dirt portion asked Bethune Town Council during a post-meeting forum on Sept. 9 when it would be fixed because its condition was not conducive to emergency vehicles. Tempers flared between council members Susan Holley and Don Witham over what Holley said was interference by Witham in efforts Holley had made earlier this year to have the road fixed by the county.
For the most part, Bethune Town Council’s Sept. 9 meeting went smoothly. The fireworks – between council members Susan Holley, who is running for mayor in November, and Don Witham, who is running for reelection to his seat -- went off after the meeting when they took part in a post-meeting question and answer session with the public.
