Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter aiming for new home
Major donor to match up to $1 million in donations toward construction
New Shelter sketch
Columbia businessman Austin Meyer and his wife, Lane, say they will match donations toward a new animal shelter in Kershaw County, up to a limit of $1 million in matching funds. The Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, run by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is bursting at the seams with homeless animals, and due to a planned truck bypasss adjacent to the shelter, the facility cannot expand at its current site. Humane Society board president and long-time shelter financial supporter Judy Thiel recently purchased a building on Black River Road to be renovated and become part of the new facility.
