South Carolina U.S. 5th District Rep. Ralph Norman (second from left) presents a U.S. flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., to J.C. Connell on Thursday. Connell’s brother, 1st Lt. Ivey Connell, one of the first of hundreds of paratroopers who landed in the first mass parachute drop that took place 75 years ago Thursday as part of the 505th Paratrooper Regiment. He was killed in action only a few months later in Italy, posthumously receiving the Purple Heart and Silver Star.
